Red Renaissance

Ever since I’ve been a little girl red has always been a colour that I have adored. Older girls wearing red dresses and red lips always fascinated me and I knew I wanted to be one of them like Rebecca Bloomwood wanted a credit card in ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’. The A/W 2017 trend of red h to t brought up the same feelings I felt as a little girl. Although trends come and go, does red ever truly go out of style? Could something as simple as wearing this one colour be the key to being eternally fashionable, the key that so many people crave. I think so.

Red has always been seen as a daring, powerful colour. Worn by those who aren’t afraid to stand out or be different and although so much emphases is put on the little black dress, the little red dress could be just as good if not better than it.

There is an old Hollywood glamour associated with red lips and red clothes as seen on Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Both women known as icons, both had the perfect red lip down to a tee.

Two more recent wearers of red lips and outfits who stole the show were Whitney Houston and Julia Roberts. In Whitney Houston’s music video ‘Run to you’ she wears the most gorgeous red lip contrasted by white airy clothing , the song was beautiful and so was she. I don’t think I will ever forget the scene in ‘Pretty Woman’ where Vivian is going to the opera, her dress and make-up were truly breath-taking and that particular scene in the movie is still one of my all time favourite movie scenes to this day.

Red on a modern day women perfectly intertwines fashion, expense, power and beauty all into one. It is something that has recently had it’s renaissance, but something that I think we all know and love everyday just the same.

It’s bright poppy happy nature has inspired so many poets, writers, photographers, designers and many more including myself for this post.
